We have recently completed two schemes which add to our portfolio of projects undertaken for a number of the prestigious College’s, which provide undergraduate accommodation and facilities across the University of Cambridge.
At Girton college we worked closely with Allies and Morrison Architects to improve the Porter’s Lodge, as well as creating a new social space, catering area and bar within a Grade I listed building. The spatial re-organisation required significant structural alterations, using specially designed propping and support systems.
Similarly, we also improved the Porter’s Lodge at Jesus College, under the watchful eye of Paul Vonberg Architects. Here, we manufactured and installed bespoke joinery such as post-room pigeon holes, a new reception desk and a curved bench. Careful attention was given to new stonework ashlars, internal brickwork, and oak and flag flooring. The project also included improvements to the Porter’s Lodge approach, which is often the first port of call for College visitors.
On both occasions, working within the heart of each College meant agreement and careful management of access routes and noisy operations, to minimise impact, allowing college life to continue without disruption.
