Work is progressing well on our project to design and build the new 420 place primary school and 56 place nursery at Greenpark Academy in King’s Lynn.
Initially our in-house groundworks division, Bowie Construction, completed extensive ground remediation, and installed piled foundation systems.
Following on, the single storey nursery has been constructed using prefabricated structural insulated panels, a modern method of construction which reduces site installation timescales. The main school is being built by more traditional means, with a steel frame, prestressed concrete beam and block ground floor, and metal decking with poured concrete first floor and roof areas. External cladding comprises render panels and facing brickwork. The new classrooms are being formed with metal stud partitions and acoustic ceilings. The new buildings will be energy efficient with photovoltaic and natural ventilation installations.
Work on the new sports pitches was started early in the construction process to ensure a full year’s growth so the school children can make the most of the new facilities as soon as they move in.
The £9m project is being undertaken for Norfolk County Council in conjunction with NPS Property Consultants Ltd and is due for completion early next year.
