Dating back to 1393, the Chapel forms an important part of the history at Gonville & Caius. standing within the Old Courts. It is one of the oldest purpose-built college chapels in Cambridge, opening each day for students, visitors, and tourists. Carrying out improvements within such a well-used and valued building requires a careful balance between preservation and modern improvements.
The successful delivery of these enhancements has required a tremendous team ethos and much collaboration with RHP Partnership Cambridge, GBG Consulting and our electrical contractor.
A special mention must also go to the Choir and Chapel team whose support, cooperation, and commitment were key factors in helping us deliver this first phase of the works successfully to such a beautiful building.
Our Cocksedge team were able to undertake a large part of the 2nd phase works during this timeframe, but the rest of Phase 2 is due to commence at the end of the year and should be completed early 2027.
These works form part of a larger project for the College to replace the organ along with other infrastructure. Here at Cocksedge we can’t wait to see the progress take shape and eventually see the finished result of this historic building.
