In addition the panel applauded Julian’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions during construction, as he currently heads up the site team for a project to construct thirty-nine townhouses to provide student accommodation for St John’s College, Cambridge. The three-storey terraces are being constructed with prefabricated cross-laminated timber panel superstructures in compliance with Passive House standards.

Finally, the panel praised Julian’s approach to management in the wider community with reference to his stakeholder engagement techniques during a project to remodel and refurbish an out-dated primary school to provide SEND secondary education accommodation.

Julian has worked with Cocksedge for over 20 years, starting his career as a qualified bricklayer, progressing as an Assistant Site Manager in 2011, and honing his skills to become a Site Manager in 2018, and has since delivered some of Cocksedge’s most complex and detailed projects to date.

Tim Allen-Booth, Associate, Niall McLaughlin Architects gave his commendation, and said

‘Julian is that rarest of site managers and he played a pivotal role in the successful delivery of the Magdalene College library. He understood and carried through the construction process the aspirations of the client to create a truly unique building, he instilled in all those working on the site his own commitment to the project and to delivering the highest level of quality, he took on a hugely demanding construction project, calmly and patiently resolving innumerable technical challenges to deliver an award-winning building, and through his commitment and his ability to communicate he commanded immense respect right across the entire project team, from the client to the design consultants and the subcontractors. Under his management the site was impeccably organised, a place of respect between professionals, and a pleasurable place to work. You could not ask for a better site manager.’
