The project was procured with a 2-stage tender. During design development our Preconstruction Team worked closely with the Design Team and encouraged an innovative approach with a number of ground investigations allowing collaborative development of an economic surface-water drainage strategy. A resultant sub-base attenuation system was designed, ensuring volumes, excavations, and earthwork support for final attenuation tanks could be minimsed, whilst maintaining AWA flow limitations. The main school has been constructed with a two-storey steel frame, precast concrete ground, upper floor and roof deck. External cladding comprises insulated render and facing brickwork.
The internal fit out includes metal stud partitions, acoustic rated ceilings and robust floor finishes. The nursery building was constructed using MMC with SIP panels manufactured off-site and erected to provide a weather-tight shell within a two-week period. The site was located within a part-built housing development and our Construction Team worked closely with the developer to from a Construction Traffic Alliance committed to reducing potential impact caused by construction traffic. The local residents were also kept informed of our environmental mitigation measures with a monthly newsletter and opportunities to visit our Construction Team to trouble-shoot any concerns.
